Attributes of Lifelong Learner

“We now accept the fact that learning is a lifelong process of keeping abreast of change.
And the most pressing task is to teach people how to learn.”

Agreeing to Peter Drucker, Albert Einstein cited that,

“I never teach my pupils, I only provide the conditions in which they can learn.”

To develop the habit of lifelong learning in students a teacher must encourage students to pursue following actions;

Always have a book:

It doesn’t matter if it takes you a year or a week to read a book. Always try hard to have a book that you are reading through, and take it with you so you can read it when you have time.

Guided Thinking:

Only studying the wisdom of others is not enough, you have to think through ideas yourself. Expend time journaling and contemplating over ideas you have learned.

Put it into Practice:

Skill based learning is worthless if it is not applied. Studying painting is not similar as picking up a brush. Put your knowledge into practice.

Keep a “To-Learn” List:

We all have to-do lists. These are the tasks we need to complete. Strive to also have a “to-learn” list. On it you can write ideas for new areas of study. Whatever motivates you, write it down.

Get More Intellectual Friends:

Start spending more time with people who think and who truly spend much of their time in learning new skills. Their companionship helps you to acquire new knowledge and skills.

Learn in Groups:

Lifelong learning does not mean accusing yourself to a pile of textbooks. Connect with organizations that teach skills. Group learning events can make educating yourself a fun, social experience.

Start a Project:

Commence to do something you do not know how. Forced learning in this way can be enjoyable and demanding. For instance if you do not know anything about computers, try exploring it.

Make it a Priority:

Some external factors may convince you to learn however, the wish has to come from within. Once you come to a decision that you desire to make lifelong learning a habit, it is up to you to make it a priority in your life.
